Freedom!

Celebration of the liberation

This statue 'Peace' is not identified as a war memorial, although it refers to the war. The statue celebrates the liberation and peace through the representation of the dove that is released.

In 1962, the time of the placement of this monument in a residential neighborhood, it was considered (such a realistic nude and nowhere strategically veiled) offensive. Regularly it was fitted with a colored bra. The bronze woman was such a prominent object in the neighborhood, that using just the term 'statue' was enough for everybody to know what that meant.

And now it is standing in front of this circus, where the animals are caged and tamed.

Note: In the Dutch National Archives is indicated that the image was called 'Night Figure' and was made by sculptor Jan Reicher.
