Aurora over Selfosskirkja

Today we visited the church of Vik and we revisited the Reynisfjara beach. After that we went to see two waterfalls: Kvernufoss and Skogafoss. After lunch we drove on to the Kerið crater. These were all very cool locations and the group had a good time capturing this, but all this time we knew: all the signals for the aurora were going sky-high and if cloud coverage would permit, there could be quite a good show. And boy, did we get a great show!

After checking in at the hotel in Selfoss we had dinner. We then drove to a location very close to Selfoss where there would be enough darkness for us to see the aurora as early as possible. All good fun, but once we could see the aurora with our own eyes, I knew we had to get to a location where we could add some more elements to our photos. I had spotted the Selfosskirkja church and quickly tried to find some images of the church with the aurora above on the internet. When I saw the results, I knew there was potential!

We drove to the church, which turned out to be located extremely close to our hotel, and off we went! The aurora borealis just grew in intensity and everyone managed to get some really good images. Excellent stuff! I'm still buzzing with excitement. Hopefully I can still catch some sleep...
