Pathway to Paris

Nick and I drive through to Glasgow. We share an excellent curry on Bath Street with Megan before heading to the Theatre Royal.

The event is the regular welcome to the COP put on by Jesse and Rebecca. Jesse is Patti Smith’s daughter and Patti is the “draw”. Also playing tonight, among a collection of to-me-unknowns, is King Creosote.

There are also motivational talks from a free trade farmer from Uganda, an ex-president of the Maldives, a young author from Nigeria, an aging activist (founder of 350.org). Each member of the audience gets to perform in a Little Sun Dawn performance and write a letter to Jamie Dimon of Chase Bank (telling him to stop lending money to fossil fuel companies).

It’s all a bit worthy and weird. The Tibetan exile from Australia was definitely out there. The impresarios were gushy and cosmic. But it was a concert like no other - and the chance to see King Creosote and Patti Smith play together for the first (and probably only) time was well worth it.

We have the power!
