Orange Bracket

Our heathland walk this morning led us to this Orange Bracket Fungus. The local species are Pycnoporus coccineus and P. sanguineus. Telling one species from the other is, I read, not easy. It is common around here. This was growing on a dead Banksia integrifolia tree. In the main photo, the fungus was growing on a branch that had fallen to the ground. In the extra, it was on the main trunk of the standing tree and has the more familiar bracket fungus shape.
