Nostalgia for much loved cafes

We went on an organised visit today with the Torbay Civic Society. Our destination was the new relocated Museum in Newton Abbot. The Museum is in a converted chapel which is also the new town council offices. The building was the recipient of a £2million Heritage Lottery Project. They have made a marvellous job of it and involved the community all the way through. Everyone wanted to remember Madge Mellor’s Cafe, and a  corner of the museum is devoted to it. At its peak the staff made 70 different cakes and bought jam by the ton.The  cafe closed in 1987 yet the name lingers on…
I think every town has a similar never forgotten much loved cafe but very few are remembered in a museum. I loved the Kardomah in Manchester.
