Happy Birthday To Pam

Today is the running of the Melbourne Cup horse race in Australia and it is a big deal in New Zealand too.  Fred who has featured in my blips organises the street event where we gather to watch the race and draw a ticket for a horse.  This years winner was a beautiful dark mare and she strode away from the field to win easily.  After the race was over we turned the tables on Fred and Pam by having a pot luck dinner to follow to celebrate Pam's eighty fifth birthday.  They were really surprised and it was lovely to have people who have moved away from the street come and celebrate with her.  Their son and daughter in law came down from Wellington.  Here is Pam being given the candles to blow out.  There was no blowing of candles on the cake.  We are taking the covid lessons seriously :-}
