Clyde Hovercraft

The first Clyde hovercraft services started in June 1965 with two craft built in the I.O.W. and registered as Clyde Hover Ferries. As blipper Martinski correctly said yesterday SRN6 010 ran from Craigendoran to Gourock seen approaching the latter in the top postcard. The craft could carry 38 passengers at 30 knots. Eight ports agreed to routes however battery troubles high winds and damage to skirts by beach landings and flotsam plus noise complaints high fuel and staff costs led to the company going into liquidation in September 1966.
