NZ Autumn 2024

Local history

Although European's arrived in 1842 the area had been populated since the 1300's and Nelson became a city when Queen Victoria installed a Bishop in the cathedral in 1858.
Alongside the sculpture are plaques naming the ships that brought settlers to Nelson and the names of the passengers and their trades. I'll Blip some of them another time.
Having moved to NZ from the other side of the world we had been called "Brave" but in reality these people back in the 1800's were the brave one's leaving their homes for an unknown land five months away on a little ship. Very brave indeed!
