Necklace Pod

Necklace Pod, Sophora truncata, is a long-lived flowering shrub native to Florida. It happily grows along the edges of costal forests and on the inland side of dunes along the beach. Sadly it's natural habitat is in danger from intense development along Florida's coasts. In the Spring it puts forth small but pretty yellow flowers, appreciated by both hummingbirds and butterflies, and then continues the show with these seed pods. The pods are covered by a soft downy 'fur'. The seeds are poisonous.

This particular plant came with me when I moved to G'ville from Miami 16 years ago. It lives quite comfortably in a container and moves into the greenhouse when the temps drop.
