AMERICAN AVOCET

American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana); non-breeding plummage, most likely a male (female's beak is more upturned). Shorebird. Wader.

Makes its living eating mostly small crustaceans and insects found in shallow water. Makes a characteristic sideways sweeping motion with its beak as it hunts.

Best in Large.
