Los Manos Solidarias

This is a tapete, a sand painting, traditionally from Oaxaca, Mexico for el Dia de los Muertos.   An artist from Oaxaca who now lives in Seattle has created one of these with local artist help for more than 25 years at the Seattle Art Museum.    This year’s tapete,” Hands in a Gesture of Solidarity” honors all who have passed away in the covid-19 pandemic.
Watched the pixar movie “Coco” recently which is very sweet and very clear about how this holiday celebrates death as part of life.    But so hard to do with the recent pandemic.
Extra : close up   and here's how they did it.
And an interview with the artist Fulgencio Laso  here

I did love a getaway from our neighborhood today..also to see the big name abstract expressionist paintings from the 50s to the 70s just donated to the museum from a local donors foundation.  see here
