Empty Chairs

Very sunny, very windy.
A good day to spend in the conservatory.
Currently playing Donny Hathaway on Spotify.
Next is Melody Gardot, in that sort of mood.

Started a new jigsaw, a Cold War Steve one, if you know of him, very scathing and sarcastic of current politics and events.
Tim bought me this one last year so it’s about the American election and the Covid pandemic in the U.K.
Full of topical figures, already some (such as Cummings and  Hancock) already obsolete.
Always interesting but hard to do, so hard l can never do the edges first!
Wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

Had a very unexpected treat last night.
Rebecca gives a bit of support to her friend who runs the box office for Ilkley Amateur Operatic Society.
The poor cast have rehearsed under strict conditions, not being together to learn the production.
The run for Oliver was for five performances, all socially distanced seating for the first four but none for the Saturday night.
Turned out the last performance was poorly attended ( about 50%) it’s usually sold out.
Rebecca had two tickets anywhere in the back four rows that were empty.
So l went along, my first visit anywhere like this for two years,  feeling cautious but we had four rows in front of us and a row to ourselves, social distancing at the extreme!
What a fabulous performance, especially from the director ( who actually doesn’t like performing) six of the cast and understudies went down with Covid and it meant he took on two roles. He was cast as Fagan but also portrayed Mr Bumble  all week.
There was one part where he had to rush off stage , do a complete change of costume and personality and return as the opposite character!
His portrayal of Fagan was far superior to that of Rowan Atkinson who l saw in the role at the London Paladium a few years ago.

Strictly was watched on iplayer when l got home, Dan and Adam in the bottom two for me.
