Time ran out

This tree fell over last winter and has recently been chopped up. I counted the rings and it was probably a tiny bit over 200 years old. That means it was growing there before the railway tunnel was constructed. It's quite amazing it survived its younger years given that it's not far from one of the ventilation shafts and that a LOT of earth/rock was lifted out and spread around the area. There are plenty of other old trees in the wood, but I suspect most date from just after the tunnel.
