New Bike

I got a new bike today, and managed to take some time out for an afternoon cycle to South Queensferry to try it out.  A round trip of 25km / 16 miles.

It's quite a lot different to its predecessor
 - 29" wheels in place of 26"
 - Narrower tyres (although the ones I specified are better than the standard ones for this bike)
 - Front suspension
 - Disc brakes
 - Spiked pedals for grip instead of toe clips
 - Wider handlebars
 - Wider gear range over 2x9 instead of 3x7

Plus of course endless differences in the detail.

I was very pleased with it and I seem to have got it set up pretty much spot on from the start.  It's a quite different ride in terms of balance - it feels slightly more agile and less leaning is required when cornering.  The narrower tyres performed well on the muddy track, but definitely have just a little less traction in the mud so I need to get used to that.  Disc brakes rock though - so smooth and controllable.

Hopefully the first of many outings on this new steed!
