Blind Testing

Today I undertook some blind testing to compare and contrast HCBs from a local artisan bakery and a large commercial (but also local) baker.

The number of tasters was rather limited, but should not affect the accuracy of the outcome.

Results:

Visual:
Which looks most appealing A or B?
Me: A - nice glossy finish,
Dog: Both

Crossy-ness
Me: Excellent crosses on both
Dog: Cross, who's cross? Have I been bad?

Smell:
Which HCB smells nicest?
Me: A can small the spices
Dog: You want me to sniff them?

Fruitability:
Me: A 21 Currants and some mixed peel B: 35 currants and some mixed peel
Dog: They had currants in? Are you sure?

Tasteness
Me: A, spicy, sweet. B: a little bland
Dog: Both delicious

Toastability:
Me A: Bit fat for the toaster, burnt a bit. B: Toasted well, even colour
Dog: What's the point in toasting? Hurry up

Further testing on keepablity and butterability will be carried out tomorrow. But which do you think is the Artisan and which the Commercial, and which was voted bestest?

Incidentally, does anyone know the correct day for eating HCBs? We always used to argue between Good Friday & Easter Day. I'm voting for Easter Day.
