Broad Brush

Returning to the same location as yesterday, but this time with a longer lens, I looked for details that interested me. Fascinated by the colours illuminated by strong late afternoon sun, I was more interested in overall mood than sharp accuracy.

A long lens and wide aperture allows one to isolate subjects to a greater degree, pushing the background into a coalesced mass. I was drawn to the broad brush strokes created by out of focus reeds in this image, in contrast to darker, smaller marks of decaying wildflowers.

I would also point out the patch of sky in the top left as a contrasting element. I wish now I had made more of that.
