11 - 11 - 11, Armistice Day

Back in September we had a short break in Dorset. While visiting an 'antiques' outlet at West Bay I saw this Goss Crested China 'souvenir' of the Great War. Since it was larger and rather nicer than the one I already had I bought it.

Thousands of these were produced and eagerly acquired by just about everybody, they reflected the jingoism and optimism of the very early days of that terrible war. They are scarce now, most were destroyed when the 'butchers bill' finally became known.
