Ramblings in Life

Solar Farm, Nevada

A day spent in the car, surveying the route with a colleague. The landscape here is unlike anything I've seen so far. Its both beautiful, inhospitable and a bit of a crazy place with casinos and motels in the desert.

Fascinating to see these solar farms at work, something I'd learnt about at University but never thought I'd see first hand. The mirrors reflect the sun onto the central tower, where a molten salt solution is heated. This solution in turns heats water into steam, which powers steam turbine electricity generators.
