Fort Scratchley

The poppies, knitted or crocheted, were for Remembrance Day and a bit battered.

Learnt that after the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney in 1942, one of the full-size supply submarines went north, sheltered behind Nobbys (extra) and fired 34 shells at Newcastle. Only 3 exploded - they were British, apparently, from 1914. The guns at Fort Scratchley retaliated. One is still fired every day at 1 p.m. and occasionally at cruise ships.

Our XPT train was cancelled due to flooding so it was a marginally slower intercity train home.
