next time: to the moon?

Well, he might not be one of ESA's astronauts to go there, but he'll definitely be one of the serious contenders for the job: after two missions on the ISS, he's now ESA's astronaut to have spent the most time in space (including during ExtraVehicular Activities), and he's only 43!

In the meantime, he'll be working at ESA's astronaut centre in Cologne, Germany. He might take his colleague Samantha Cristoforetti's place as Crew Representative in the team that is currently designing Gateway, the world's outpost to space exploration, when she flies to the ISS during spring 2022. The next stage will be to set up a permanent station on the Moon, then of course we'll go to Mars!
