a lifetime burning

Just by chance

I've been a bit slow today, courtesy of the booster jab, although things are starting to improve a bit this evening.  I had been hoping to find a decent macro shot to use for today's blip, as that didn't involved going any further than the back garden.

Instead, I managed to catch this gull as it flew over just as the light was starting to go.  It was completely the wrong lens and relatively high ISO but it was interesting to see what could be done with it all the same.

Its a yellow legged gull, a species that has only recently been recognised in its own right.  Previously it was considered a part of the herring gull population.  You can tell the difference amongst other things from the legs which are bright yellow, the red ring around the eye and the bill which is yellow with a large red spot.
