'Stones against the sky'

This public sculpture in Sydney's Kings Cross was created by artist Ken Unsworth in 1998. Originally the roughly round shapes were russet brown in colour and earned the alternative name of 'Poo on sticks' by disgruntled locals.

Without having strong feelings about this particular sculpture, I'm nonetheless a KU fan. He likes contradictory ideas, the notion of stones against the sky being one, unless you throw them up there but they soon fall down.

I'm also very fond of his Suspended Stone Circle:

Here we see the heavy thing becoming the light thing (aided by lots of strings).

Thanks for hosting Ingeborg.
