Japanese Christmas Card

My nephew has been living in Japan for some years now.  He and his wife have three children (including a boy who looks very Japanese but has red hair).  We normally see them each year or so at Christmas but, for obvious reasons, we did not see them last year and will not this year either.

We received this wonderfully normal yet quirky Christmas card this year from the family.  Not sure if this can be classed as Shinto or "cultural invasion".  I guess it's somewhere in between or, like most things these days - simply "curious".
