Stag's Horns

This morning we and three  friends spent nearly two hours strimming, pruning, raking, etc on our little local wildlife  area.
We spotted this  small patch of fungi. I think it's Candlesnuff or Stag's Horn  Fungus  (Xylaria hypoxylon). It is a common species but still worthy of a look.  We said to eachother everyone is concerned  about saving and protecting  the unusual and rare (especially birds and plants) but who looks out for the more common species?
