Ewbanks last day

A sad day in Appleby, Ewbanks butchers, a true, old-style butchers shop, with massive butchers blocks at the back of the shop, did their last day of trading - although they have been bought up by another butcher, but not sure if it will remain the same.

Shoppers enter the shop, queue along the back wall, and are called up to the counter for serving. It really is like stepping back a good 50 years. The picture shows a rump steak being wrapped, with two generation of Ewbank serving me. We added a leg of lamb to the order, and although the price wasn't cheap, it was possibly the best steak and lamb I've ever eaten.

Do hope the new owners keep it the same.
