Journeys of all sorts

My final day of volunteering at the Kendal Mountain Festival, where I was on duty for the film collection Run and Hike  - 7 short films about epic runs and long-distance walks, followed by the collection called Outside Thinkers, 9 short films which seemed a bit of an odd bunch but included some very moving images of refugees in France joining the local running club, and a disturbing story of a father's perilous swim with his young daughter from China to Hong Kong during the Cultural Revolution.  Finally I was able to hear a couple of speakers talk about not only their recent climbing epics but also their changing attitudes to the ecology of the montane habitats and the need for conservation.  Very thought-provoking, as good festivals should be.
