According to this sign that's the height above mean sea level (NN) in metres at this location (about in the middle of our village). The mean sea level is in Amsterdam, NL, by the way (there called NAP).
Why does this qualify for Derelict Sunday (thanks, Marlieske!)?
Because NN is outdated! At the end of the 20th century NN (and HN in GDR) was replaced by NHN (Normalhöhennull), based on the datum of the Amsterdam Ordnance Datum. Remeasuring showed that the known heights were not accurate and could differ from reality with up to 59cm (2 feet).
By the way, in the UK this measurement is called Ordnance Datum Newlyn (or OD).
