Yakovlev Yak-18 Motueka Airport

With the need to visit the bee equipment suppliers in Motueka (Mot) I wandered along to the Airport which is the home of Nelson Aviation College and initially they were not flying. As I returned to the car I noticed an aircraft in the corner by the maintenance hanger so drove round to take a look
The aircraft was a Nanchang built, Chinese obviously, Yakolev Yak-18 built in 1965 and one of eight in NZ this one was titled Chia Doll. Some more pictures will appear in the link once the site has approved them

There was also a Pacific Island Air aircraft under maintenance with several parts missing including the engine. This aircraft is a De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver and used to be a float plane.

As I was about to leave one of the flight school Cessna 172's took to the sky.

An enjoyable hour and it was good to be able to chat to the pilot of the Yak who was doing a test after maintenance and heading to Karamea on ht eSouth Islands west coast.
