Is it Safe?

Looking through our drinks cupboard today we had forgotten we had an unopened bottle of Baileys.  We have had it a very long time but could not remember when we bought it.  When we checked the use by date, it said Apr 01! (in French).  Is it safe we thought?  So we opened it to do a sniff test.  Smelt okay but decided to pour it away as neither of us drink the stuff and it was so old. When I tried to tip it down the sink (sacrilege I know) I found it had solidified.  So it now rests in a crate in our utility room ready for the bottle bank at some stage.  And to think we were going to donate as a raffle prize!
