Dream

"Dream" is a conceptual piece of art commissioned by St Helens Council in Merseyside as a part of the The Big Art Project "Dream" is a conceptual piece of art commissioned by St Helens Council in Merseyside as a part of the The Big Art Project, an ambitious public arts initiative from the television station Channel 4 that is supported by the Arts Council England and The Art Fund.

The statue was selected by a group of ex-coal miners for permanent display on the site of the former deep shaft colliery at Sutton Manor and designed by renowned international artist Juame Plensa who based the concept on brief conversations with the ex-coal miners and positioned overlooking the M62 motorway and is intended to do be a gateway feature for both Merseyside and Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northwest of England.

Standing 20 metres in height and costing £3,000,0000 of private and Lottery Fund art grants the statue is situated on top of a former spoil heap in the heart of Sutton Manor Park. Dream takes the form of a young girl with her eyes closed, seemingly in a dream like state, and is the centre piece of what will become a contemplative and reflective area for future generations.

I was wholly unimpressed, but I have the foresight to imagine what the area will look like in a years time
