Its about time something was done

Radcliffe Road Bury / Bury Road Radcliffe is fast becoming one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Bury. Countless motor accidents happen on this road, many fatal. One particular stretch, Warth Bridge is particularly treacherous. Running over the River Irwell where Bury and Radcliffe meet, this section regularly mists over at night, and in sub zero temperatures always freezes. Only days ago we had a fatal accident at this section. So recent that flowers of tribute are still there.
We all sympathise the best we can with the loss of peoples loved ones in such tragic circumstances. But that is the most people do. Until that is, something like this almost happens to one of your own. Last night just before midnight, my youngest daughter was taking her boyfriend home over this bridge to Radcliffe, lost her car on the ice, this sent the car out of control and ended up on the roof. How on earth the two of them managed to get out of the car virtually unscathed is beyond me. I can only put this down to the spectacularly high safety standards of the car. Fiat 500. The police officer on the scene stated that the ice was to blame for this. And both are very very lucky they didnt become a statistic.
I write this as a father, an emotional wreck who nearly lost one of the most important things in his life.
Wouldnt you have thought that because of the number of accidents occuring at this section, that the local council would have installed an anti skid surface across the road to put a stop to this from happening in future? This is something that i WILL be taking up when they re-open tomorrow.
I'm away now to have a very stiff drink to settle my nerves / drown my sorrows, and count my blessings that my little girl is still with us, and her boyfriend is still in the arms of his family.
