Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

The household Gods.

Every household needs its protective Gods, particularly when the lights go out once again post Storm Arwen! The Romans had their Lares and this female deity has looked after us for the last 50 years. She was old before she came to us, having lived for many  years in the village of Kambot on the Karem River in North-Eastern New Guinea.
The lights were out for some 9 hours this time but luckily we had some candles, a gas fire  and the brass family candlesticks. We have got off very lightly indeed compared to many in Aberdeenshire who have been without electricity, and in some case water, for 4 days now and with no end in clear sight.
