Capodimonte

In Scotland, and probably in many countries around the world, the custom at weddings is to present each guest with a little 'favour' to remind them of the day.  We were guests at a wedding in St. Andrews Cathedral in Glasgow, a very beautiful place.  The ceremony was beautiful, as was the bride, and the groom, the son of our friends, was very handsome.

At the reception on the table were beautiful little Capodimonte roses in different colours.  In his speech the father of the Bride said that the year before the wedding he and his wife had gone on holiday in Italy and were so taken by these that they bought one for every lady guest, and a few extra in case of breakages, as they brought them home wrapped up in tissue paper in the plane.  He beseeched us ladies to look after them as they had caused a lot of stress to him in the transport, and had also given him lighter pockets.

I took him at his word, and 27 years later I still treasure my little Capodimonte rose!

Today is St. Andrews Day and I send greetings to eveyone from Scotland.
