City Limits

I was half way through my run this morning when I reached the old 'city limits' of Flodden Wall.  Construction of the wall started the year after the Battle of Flodden in 1514 and was completed in 1560.  It was primarily build as a defensive measure against a possible English invasion - it's 24 feet high and 4 feet thick.  About 10,000 people lived within the confines of Flodden Wall.  There was six gates / ports in the wall - if you left or entered Edinburgh you had to pay a tax here!
