Channelling

Four years have passed since the death of Tony Whitten, our dear colleague. Tony championed the unsung wildlife of the world. His career was focused on Asia but he’d have loved the bounty of critters in Chimanimani, Mozambique. He was particularly fond of a cave, of which there are many here. He’d have enjoyed this owl moth on the door frame.

Tony also championed young conservationists and had the knack of inspiring them (I was once one) through enthusiasm and knowledge. I channelled Tony when working with Alfredo, our intern, on his activity report. I’m pretty sure I’m not as natural a mentor as Tony but it was still a useful discussion.
