Better than a car!

There’s a rapidly-growing tribe of cargo bike owners - of which I am a happy evangelist - who just love it when folk assume you need a car for stuff! Where I live at least, bikes are way better than cars…

But what about getting the kids to school? Well… it’s much quicker in my Bakfiets than adding yet another metal box to those fuming in the stationary traffic. Plus it’s cheaper, healthier, better for the environment, and more social too as we chat to each other and to passers-by.

But what about grocery shopping? Well… I order most online, with a weekly veg box, soon to come by bike I hope! - and walk to the Coop for occasional top ups. (Driving a car to a packed out of town hypermarket, with kids too = a special version of hell!).

But what about parking? Well… it’s actually easier to park than a bike as it has its own stand. And it’s much easier to park than a car, with car parking expensive and a big stress to find round here - some people even end up parking their cars on pavements, an advanced level of selfishness…

But what about the cost? Well… it’s true they can be two or even three thousand pounds with battery assist (wish I had it!) - but that’s still a lot cheaper than buying a car. And they cost nothing to run, no MOT or excise duty, just a once a year service and strong legs!

But what about big stuff - you can’t get a Christmas tree in yer fancy cargo bike now can you eh? Well… See picture - next! ;-)
