The Edge of the Wold

Curlew flight

There really is a curlew in this shot taken at Sandside, flying away from me towards Arnside and the setting sun.  The sun made a brief final showing as it descended through cloud and touched the wooded horizon.

A fine end to a fine Winter's day.  We had been for a walk with A and E (not accident & emergency thankfully), the first time we had seen them in real life since before the first Lockdown last year.  The plan was to sit outside at Sizergh Castle and have a coffee and soup, but the National Trust have not yet had their power restored after the storm last Friday night.  So we went on to the Sizergh Barn shop and sat outside there instead.

We were too busy talking there and back, and I never took the camera out of the bag.  Hence a trip out again after we got home to see the evening light on the estuary.  Cameras and tripods were out in force on the promenade, so I walked a little further to get the view up the estuary past the fence with its decoration of tangled flotsam that featured in my pre-disappearance blip last January.
