A Sasanach's Skye photos

Pole Star, no fooling!

Of the 150 or so photographs I have taken today I have chosen this one because it tells a story. 'Pole Star' is the name of the vessel. She visits Portree once every year, as she must every other port.
Her crew are responsible for the maintenance repair and/or replacement of every navigation buoy. This year once again they lift the buoys and thoroughly clean them, Replace the batteries if they need it and replace the bouy exactly as it was lifted. The vessel keeps station by the navigational computers and bow and stern thrusters plus the main screw. Today they may have had it comparatively easy with light winds and sunny weather but jolly cold.
I struggle now to remember the last time we had rain, it seems a long time ago. We will take it hard when eventually the weather breaks as surely it must.
Once again it is clear outside tonight and freezing hard.
