National Poetry Writing Month

April 1st was the first day of National Poetry Writing Month. The first challenge was to write a poem starting with the first line of another poem. Here is my effort. Hope you are all well. I've been a bit under the weather since I returned from Scotland but I'm getting there now.

In front of the mirror in my parents' bedroom lay a pink conch. I use to watch myself place its smooth lip to my ear and whisper the sea. One day I heard nothing. So I closed my eyes until I heard the faint cry of a seagull above the beating of my heart. Although I was small, I knew that if you long for love enough, you can pretend it exists.
