Food For Thought

In the morning sunshine, Oxalis versicolor.

A day at home apart from a dog walk.   Some concerted  tidying and sorting in various rooms has made a tangible difference.   Still a huge task ahead but things look a bit better.

I was very struck by Pope Francis' words today as he spoke while visiting a refugee camp in Greece.   He really struck a chord with my own thoughts.

Pope Francis called the neglect of migrants the "shipwreck of civilisation".

"In Europe there are those who persist in treating the problem as a matter that does not concern them - this is tragic."

"History teaches us that narrow self-interest and nationalism lead to disastrous consequences."

"It is easy to influence public opinion by instilling fear of the other."

"The remote causes should be attacked, not the poor people who pay the consequences and are even used for political propaganda."

I fear that the truth of these words will come to haunt future generations.
