That's Istanbul!

I huge new metro bridge being built across the Golden Horn. Under it, you can see a part of an ancient wall built when the area was a colony of the Repulic of Genoa. This juxtaposition is pure Istanbul to me. Another example? World class engineers digging the world's deepest underwater tunnel discover an ancient harbour and all work stops for four years while marine archeologists work round the clock to extract 37 intact vessels and hundreds of thousands of historical records. Amazing place. See CBC's The Nature of Things episode called "The Emperor's Lost Harbour"
