Three Men and a Hole

There's a theory, attributed to E, that around every hole are always to be found three men - one digging, the other two looking, or supervising, or joking, or whatever it is that men do standing around a hole. It's still a bit of a mystery. This is possibly the first of a series. In the name of science, of course.
