A Day In The Life

Solar-Powered

I couldn’t resist this picture of Ducky propped up on a pile of grocery bags catching some morning rays • Our solar-powered tree lights arrived so they now adorn the crooked little tree. We then repositioned the tree to the corner of the patio to tie it to a lilac tree in hopes of keeping it upright during the next storm. All fingers crossed! • With today being an odd numbered day I got to open a drawer in the Advent Calendar (MrsP has even-numbers), I was quite pleased to find something edible, and sweet: a Needham • What? You’ve never heard of a Maine Needham Candy? I had never heard of one either until moving here • The official state treat is the Whoopie Pie. Don’t get me wrong, they deserve a place of honor in the World of Delightful Sweet Treats too, but the Needham deserves the title in my opinion because of its ingredients: chocolate, coconut, plus a Maine staple - potatoes! Yes! Potatoes! At one time Maine was the largest harvester of potatoes in the US • Needhams date back to 1872 and were named after a popular preacher, George C. Needham, but were actually developed by a cook who worked for a local candy-maker. And the rest is history • We are both feeling better today, and should be back to 100% tomorrow :)
