An unexpected surprise

I felt better today than yesterday, so this afternoon we ventured on a short, slow walk down to St Heliers and back. Hmm, a lot of work is needed to improve my fitness and my breathing.

When we arrived home, there was a plastic bag sitting at our door.  On inspection it contained two bottles of wine and two crystal glasses.  The card accompanying the package explained all.  An elderly gentleman called Peter lived on the floor above us. He had lived in the UK for many, many years, so he and hubby got talking and discovered that they’d actually lived quite close to one another in Twickenham and drank in the same pub.  What a small world.  Peter was a real gentleman and he was positive right up until he died after a short illness back in May.  He had asked his niece to give a memento to each of his friends, so the wine and glasses were what she chose for us. What a lovely surprise and something that will always remind us of Peter.

There are 95 new community cases today. They have been reported in Auckland (75), Waikato (11), Bay of Plenty (5), the Lakes area (1), and Christchurch (1). Sadly, two more deaths have also been reported, bringing the total number of deaths in New Zealand from the pandemic to 46.
