‘Sliding rock’.

This is a joggers view of ‘Sliding Rock’, which has been a favourite place for local children to climb and slither back down for generations.
‘Sliding Rock Path’ on which it is situated is part of a 20+ mile network through Great Torrington Commons. The rock is of Bude Formation sandstone. A Sedimentary rock, it started life on the bed of an ancient sea about 310 million years ago. Later it became subject to immense forces folding it upwards from horizontal to a near vertical position. The stunning views from here are of the Torridge river valley and the Tarka countryside. A very gentle 5 mile jog this morning, super excited to see the elusive tree creeper winding up an oak tree, a family of long tailed tits then joined the stage to entertain. I’m off to receive my Covid-19 booster now, stay safe, be patient and have a lovely weekend everyone.
