Signs of Spring

Caught this little chap in the catkins, of which there are more and more. I don't think spring can wait for the cold to go - the trees and plants are just having to grow.

Down at the river this morning, there was a thrush singing from the treetops, sorting out his territory, and further round the path a dunnock was doing the same thing from a fencepost. There were three warblers - spring arrivals - hunting for insects on the bits of dry ground in the marsh on the inside of the path. I think they were chiff-chaffs, but I haven't looked at identifying them yet.

Across the river in the woods on the valley side, crows were chasing a pair of sparrowhawks around the trees, trying to drive them away, but they nested up there last year, so I suspect they will be there again.

So lots of signs of spring - I get the feeling that when it warms up, everything will grow at once and within two days or so, spring will have caught up. Looking forward to it.
