Poppies

Maisie and I walked to the Burleigh Bridge and back early this morning. A distance of just over 5 kms.
The gloriously red poppies are flowering adjacent to the RSA Memorial Olive Grove by the Burleigh Bridge. There are memorial white crosses at the feet of many Olive Trees in the grove.
Whenever I see these poppies in flower I cannot but think of John McCrae’s iconic poem “In Flanders Fields”……
“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below…….”
