No Need To Be So Shellfish

Unlike yesterday we decided to brave the cold and head back to the coast - this time settling on a return to Whitstable. It was the last weekday of my brother's week off before he has to head back to work on Monday so we felt like we should have another trip out.
Although it was cold with a strong wind the skies were blue and the sun was out. We set off at about 10.30 am and had a really easy journey down to Whitstable as there was hardly any traffic.
Once we had parked the car we headed out to The Old Neptune pub, right on the beach, for a pint which is where the full force of the winter wind hit us. The landlord laughed when we said we would take our pints outside overlooking the sea, saying "you're brave!". The minute we were outside we could see why - no other soul had braved going out there and if anything the wind was even stronger and even colder. It was actually rather exhilarating until our pints nearly blew over!
Our pints consumed and a small walk along the shingle beach (where my first two extras were taken) completed, we decided to head in the opposite direction to our last visit - towards the fishing port - which is where I took today's main image. I just liked the combination of the lettering on the lorry, the slightly strange corrugated structure and the smoke coming out of the chimney with the roofs of a couple of fishing huts in the background.
We then walked back into the town itself, where we were gratefully sheltered from the wind, and had a large bag of chips to warm ourselves up before heading home. Whitstable has a great variety of shops (my third extra is just one example), art galleries, cafes and restaurants and the town still had a good buzz about it despite it being a freezing winter's day..
There's something I love about being by the sea in the winter - less crowds and more space to breathe and take in your surroundings than in the summer. Another great day out!
