Stuff and Nonsense

Redwing, Knot #120 & #121

The winter solstice served up some lovely light this morning at Hoylake. At high tide there were thousands of birds around - tons of oystercatchers(extra) and knot, a few hundred Cormorants way out at the waters edge, some redshank and numerous types of gull. It was quite spectacular.
We then headed to Parkgate in search of the Barn Owl, but we’re unsuccessful, although we did find a couple of redwings on the rear field to add to my total. Finally we dropped in on Denhall Quay but didn’t stay too long as we were both cold and even though there were up to four short eared owls hunting over the marsh, they were way too far away for any shots. Lovely to see though. That definitely seems to be the place this year for shorties.
