Riding home over whinlatter

I'm slowly getting my fitness back, and after moving house last summer, my commute now is 22 miles.

Leaving Keswick I either can risk riding along what is essentially a single lane dual carriageway, very twisty, high speeds, and no hard shoulder or verge. Not ideal when I'm going around 30mph slower than the flow of traffic.

My other option is over Whinlatter pass. Quiet, picturesque. 800 foot of ascent in 2.5miles.

This is about half way up over looking Bassenthwaite lake.
